World Vision Finland in short

World Vision Finland, founded in 1983, is a Christian humanitarian organization working to create a lasting, positive change in the lives of children, families and communities living in poverty. We are part of World Vision International, one of the leading development and humanitarian organizations and the world’s biggest child sponsorship organization.

With the support of nearly 14,000 Finns, World Vision Finland helps people in 6 countries (India, Sri Lanka, Columbia, Peru, Uganda and Kenya) through 20 area development programs and four special projects. World Vision Finland is a partner organization of the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

The vast majority of World Vision Finland’s programs are concerned with long-term community development that address the causes of poverty and help people move towards self-sufficiency.Our goal is to improve the quality of life for the underprivileged, and those caught in the web of poverty and despair. We are dedicated to working with the world’s most vulnerable people regardless of their religion, ethnicity or gender.

As well as working on long-term community development projects, we provide relief in emergency situations. World Vision is globally positioned to help with immediate needs like food, water and shelter when disaster strikes and to help communities to recover and prevent future catastrophes. With the help of it’s worldwide network and 40 000 employees, the organization Is able to react quickly and effectively when immediate help is needed.

World Vision Finland is a member of the following organizations:

The World Vision Partnership

World Vision Finland is a member of the global World Vision Partnership. Interdependent national World Vision offices are bound together by a Covenant of Partnership. World Vision Finland’s role within the Partnership is to raise funds, work alongside partner offices in designing and running high quality programs and projects and to be an advocate for the children, their families and communities we serve.

 

Funding

Approximately half of World Vision Finland’sfunding comes from private donors, mainly sponsors, and another half from Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. All programs are funded by Finnish resources. In 2010, World Vision Finland’s income was 9,5 million euro. In 2010, 77 percent of our total operating expenses were used for programs that benefit children, families, and communities in need.

The World Vision Finland office team is made up of over 40 staff members working across Supporter Care, Accounting, IT, Communications & Advocacy, Office Management, Marketing and Programs.

Tiina Saukko was appointed Chief Executive of World Vision Finland in January 2009.
